El Pollo Loco Adds Meatless Chicken to Menu Nationwide, But It Can’t Be Ordered Vegan Yet

While the chain’s new “plant-based’ Chickenless Taco leaves out the meat, customers are warned that it currently contains an egg enzyme.

This caught me off-guard, although I shouldn’t have been surprised since this is part of an overall trend of fast food and fast casual restaurant chains gradually offering veg*an menu items to grab some of the customer base wanting healthier options. I haven’t eaten at an El Pollo Loco in years; the one in Santa Monica closed ages ago and was replaced with another chain (I can’t remember which one) with a menu I wasn’t interested in. And I struggled at El Pollo Loco when I did eat there, in the company of omni family members; I could only have some of the side dishes, and I thought they were way too salty. So I told my family I no longer wanted to eat there.

I used to have a Pollo Loco in a strip mall I went to occasionally. I think I only ate there cause of convenience. but I'm pretty sure I thought it was at least OK.
