I’ve been thinking a lot about how lawn care fits into a sustainable lifestyle. Between mowing, edging, and weeding, it can feel like a never-ending job, but also an opportunity to make eco-conscious choices.

What do you all do to keep your lawns and gardens looking good while staying sustainable? Do you:

  • Stick to manual or electric tools?
  • Use natural weed control methods?
  • Plant low-maintenance, drought-tolerant groundcovers instead of traditional lawns?

I also recently discovered LawnQ, which connects you with local gardeners and lawn services. It got me thinking about how technology can support greener lifestyles too — especially when providers are local and it saves driving around looking for help.

Would love to hear what tips and routines others here use to balance lawn care with sustainability.

Cheers,
Paul

As little as possible. We get so many 'volunteer' plants in the yard. Some beautiful tall purple cattail type flowers sprung up in the backyard and bloomed a long time! We have a corded electric mower and my son will just avoid whatever little flowers pop up. We tried a manual push, but it won't cut all the different types of grass

Not quite answering your question but I have planted wild flower seeds, shrubs and fruit trees, and used bark for paths with tree trunks from a wood chip drop-off company. I have seen the garden become a habitat for many insects.
