Look at this person's article here!

http://www.av1611.org/666/barcode.html

Crazy, right? Some people take the Bible so literally, word for word even, and they spend their whole lives trying to prove that it is correct. One can even feel a bit sorry for them, that this is what they do with their time.

Well, luckily for them, many of the worlds corporations are now run by individuals so evil that they are inadvertently making the most devout Bible interpreters and the most freaked out conspiracy theorists' stories and ideas come true.

Check this out:

This will likely be a thing in years to come. Would you get one?

These are just the earliest models too. Even more complex ones are likely to be invented.

That is so bizarre and interesting, about bar codes, at the same time. I couldn't read through the entire article but I skimmed through it...it's too early in the morning for me.

I will confess, after watching The Omen, years ago, it took me a long time to get over the whole "666" superstition. I was easily freaked out by movies the like of The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, etc. Now I just don't watch anything of that nature, lol. I'm sticking to Hallmark movies! :D

Over the years, if its one thing I've learned it's to "never say never".
So for right now my answer is hell no!

Some people do seem to have 'prophetic' powers to predict the future ...

George Orwell (1984) and Leonardo Da Vinci being two possible examples?

I wouldn't rule out that certain biblical prophecies may yet prove to be frighteningly accurate.

Two things though ...

1. There is a tendency to laud the one out of a billion prophesies that transpire to have had any 'accuracy' in them whatsoever.

(I think there's a bit of the old "give infinite monkeys infinite time and infinite typewriters .." syndrome that cannot be completely ruled out there.)

2. If one or more prophesies, biblical or otherwise, turn out true then only the 'truth' of those specific prophesies is 'proven'.

The typicaly Christian notion that "if one thing in the bible can be proven to be true then EVERYTHING in the bible is proven to be true is as big a pile of bollixical nonsense as one can possible get.

Specificaly on Christianity ...

The claim that the bible holds ONLY literal truth is positively suicidal.

Only one single thing out a billion things in the bible needs to be proven NOT to be literaly true and that claim is then blown completely out of the water.

The creation story in Genesis would be a prime example.

The thing is though, that cellphone companies are now trying to tattoo us. i find that idea scary. It is very Orwellian. Once we start to bear tattoos from corporations, what is left of humanity being free? It is basically wearing a barcode, like we are an item to be scanned at the supermarket.

And I posted the first article to point out that corporations are really pushing the boundaries when they do things which make the bible-interpreter's prophecies come true.

I used to think that too, but looking at the terrible things that people in power have been doing over the last 20 years, I certainly now agree with the Bible's idea of corruption and evil, and I did not think that in previous years.

I am not a Christian though.

With regard to the tatoos...They are simply taking advantage of a trend that's being going on for a while. I don't think I haven't seen a 20 something without a tatoo. And since 20 somethings are big smart phone consumers, it makes sense to market a functional tatoo.

That is not what tattoos are for though! Tattoos are a highly personal piece of body art which humans have been getting since we lived in tribes. They are not meant to be placed for commercial purposes, or placed upon you by a government or corporation. If this is happening, then something is wrong.

I think Beancounter is probably right, tattoo thing being a gimmick. I think some sort of chip is more likely.. a tattoo would be fairly easy to fake anyway.

I suppose the cyborgation of the world is quite likely....I can't see it going well though....first they will read our minds with technology, then they may put ideas in our heads with technology.

How is this a good thing though? Why cant we just carry smartphones around as actual phones? There is no good reason why we need to turn our bodies into a smartphone.

And tattoos are not a gimmick. They certainly arent amongst the Maori and Polynesian people here, they would find that idea insulting. They have some very traditional ritual and legend surrounding their tattoos. Maori men and women both traditionally wear tattoos, on both body and face.

To compare a massive corporation, Google, (who own Motorola) trying to phone you through your skin to traditional tattooing (and tattooing amongst young people trying to find their identity) is just not a fair comparison. There is nothing sacred about what large corporations do and nothing sacred about their intentions.

Well I suppose phone companies would like to have no upper limit to the price, and complexity of the stuff they sell, but then that make people more and more a target for thieves, so they want some way to make stealing someone's technology impossible or very difficult.

But it is stupid. And dangerous, and terrible. Nothing good can come of allowing Google to insert itself in your skin, or stomach. Why cant anyone see this?

some people can see it, but some people would be quite happy to become cyborgs....I don't mind if people want to become cyborgs; as long as no one has this technology forced upon them, which they probably will have by some employers.

Considering the ways many of these corporations have behaved in the past, do you think that they can really be trusted? And it is not just an amorphous bunch of people who will become these cyborgs as you say, it is the people of today's children and grandchildren who will bear these barcodes and chips. This is something of concern and I dont know why I havent heard anyone discussing it.

well, there was a thread about the chip=the mark of the beast, on VB a while back....I think people do discuss it now and then, but I suppose there is a limit as to what can be said.

:gives up on attempt to find a google image of the original star trek episode where the aliens wore those metal neck rings that would send a shock to the wearer if they did or said anything illegal.:

Instead I will just say those creepy tattoos--on the neck yet!-- are the worst idea I've ever heard. Even Orwell didn't dream that one. Of course, he didn't know we'd be happily carrying around portable telescreens, either.
