Alpha-gal syndrome-identified as food allergy to red meat

That's been around quite a few years, and no hoax! I've come across posts from mild symptoms, to allergies just being around meat cooking. It includes some very reluctant vegetarians!

It is also very very rare. You get it from a bite from a tick. Most famously the Lone Star Tick. its not a permanent condition. People get "better". Also ten years ago or so it wasn't well know and often misdiagnosed.

The Podcast, RadioLab did a great episode on it.

Animal Rights activists could probably raise lone star ticks and let them loose in areas where there are a lot of Carnists.
