Let's list the 1001 movies we think everyone should see before they die. If there is more than one version of a movie, please include the year of release of your preferred version. Also, I'm interested in making a list, so please refrain from posting a lot of videos unless there's a scene that you feel best defines a particular movie and you want to encourage us to see that movie.

I'll start my list, in no particular order. I won't number them, because I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of duplicated titles.

Adam's Rib

"Hailed a masterpiece when it was first published, the story of Gavin Maxwell's life with otters on the remote west coast of Scotland remains one of the most lyrical, moving descriptions of a man's relationship with the natural world. ""One of the outstanding wildlife books of all time.""-New York Herald Tribune First published 1960 by Longmans, Green & Co"

I bought this book as a gift for someone but have not read it myself. I must put it on my to read list as it is based on a real life story.

I'm adding two movies that are considered racist and controversial, but I think they should be seen at least once for the curiosity value:

Birth of a Nation, the 1915 silent from D.W. Griffith, with its positive portrayal of the KKK, viewers will find this disturbing, but critics hail DWG as a master storyteller and innovative filmmaker.

Gone With the Wind, which detractors say contains negative stereotypes of black people. After seeing either or both movies, it may help to find and watch the episode of The Carol Burnett Show which spoofs GWTW. And yes, the studio (Warner Bros) WAS fined for Clark Gable's closing line in the movie.
