I like the idea, furthermore it really makes me laugh when people throw out food because of the expiry date.

I imagine that the believe that all the nasties overtake the food at midnight.

This is wonderful idea. It's astonishing how much food is wasted in this country. I never pay much mind to the expiration dates. If something looks off or smells iffy, then I might pitch it. Like soy milk, for instance. The box says use it within seven to 10 days of opening it. I routinely can get more than two weeks out of one box.
