another "vintage" nugget. the 4th of the "why be vegan" series that started off the BSV project:
where does eating meat, dairy, and other animal products fall on the scale of morality? do we inherently have the right of dominion over animals?
if we can't talk about where our animal products come from and what the animals go through to become "products," how can we stand to eat them? as gary yourofsky says, if it's not good enough for your eyes, why is it good enough for your stomach?
this question of the morality of consuming animals is not new, with historical figures such as Thomas Edison, Albert Schweitzer, Raplh Waldo Emerson, and William Ralph Inge, to name a few, speaking out about the immorality of mistreating other creatures.
why do we love our dogs but eat our pigs? pigs dwarf dogs in intelligence. westerners tend to be horrified by the eating of dogs and dolphins, yet we slaughter billions of animals every year.
animal intelligence is long-documented. aside from intelligence, suffering knows no species.
in short, suffering is suffering, regardless of your race, gender, or species.
