I love coconut macaroons.
I would imagine that the shredded coconut is the sweetened variety ? We only get plain unsweetened dessicated coconut overhere.

I've seen both in the US supermarkets. As there is such a small amount of sugar it the recipe, I'm guessing that
you should use the sweetened variety of coconut.
