I went to a discount store looking to find a pair of cheap sunglasses. The only ones they had were "reading" glasses--the kind you see in drug stores or pharmacy departments, pre-made (non-prescription) with some sort of focal ratings from 1.0 to 3.0, usually at various .25 numbers along the range. The pair I got were just plain tinted lenses, except for dime-sized focal areas near the bottom of the lenses. Mine were rated 2.50 (Strong). Put another way, as long as you did not try to "look down your nose," you would not even notice the "focal" areas.
What can you tell me about such pre-made reading glasses? Is there a name for the 1.0 to 3.0 scale, or search term, in case I wanted to read more about them?
