President Obama strongly condemned the rising anti-intellectual streak on the right—but also on the left—in his remarks at Rutgers University’s spring commencement on Sunday.
But he reserved some time at the end of his speech to also criticize students who are too “fragile” to listen to people whose opinions offend them. He said it was a mistake for students to seek to disinvite speakers with whom they disagree.

I am really going to miss this man and this family being in the White House.

A speech well worth listening to in its entirety. Thanks for posting the link, IS.

I mean... I definitely do think that bigoted opinions should be confronted head-on and shut down through debate rather than just avoided altogether. But this comes across as insensitive to me, and rubs me the wrong way a bit.

If students don't want someone on their campus, it is entirely within their rights as a student body to protest that person showing up and try and get their appearance cancelled. It is also entirely within the rights of those who are setting up the appearance, and the person appearing, to ignore that feedback and go through with it anyway.
