One of the greatest irritants in my life is advertising. If I really must watch a TV programme on a commercial channel then I record it so the adverts can be fast forwarded. In my formative years I was completely seduced by “fun” adverts and to this day I still have maddening jingles surfacing in my mind. Part of my brain has been taken over by people trying to sell me things.

I am always amongst the first to report advertising posts on this forum that are inappropriately placed in the general or others sections. Some “fly-boys” even try to disguise their advert as a friendly piece of helpful advice. Oh, the deceitful evils of commercialism!

For some weeks now I have been puzzled as to why so many fellow vegans so obviously disagree with my views. My weekly emails from the forum administrator giving the most popular new topics of the previous week have been headed by threads in the advert section. Why would vegans so readily welcome being self-duped?

At last I have sussed it out.

It’s all to do with alphabetical order. First listed are the most popular topics in Ads, then those in Animals, then Environment, then Food and so on. Threads in Support or Transitioning have no chance of a look in. :)

Roger.

Am I supposed to be seeing ads because I’m not seeing any.

rogerjolly is talking about the threads listed in the weekly emails. I can assure you these are automatically generated - no personal involvement from me, although I'm of course nevertheless responsible for what is contained in these emails. Thank you for the feedback - the Ads forum is one of the things I'm considering changing/tweaking a bit.

Forgive me if I didn’t make myself clear enough because of having a rant about advertising in general all mixed up with my main point which is a bug in the sorting of the most popular topics.

This was my general rant.

This was a further rant about advertisers taking advantage of the forum. During the last two months I have reported at least a dozen adverts very cheekily placed outside the ads section. The moderators are very quick off the mark and have either deleted them or moved them to the ads section.

This was my main point. I wanted to bring attention to a bug.

Here is the email and I have added the current number of views:

So, the ads get listed before many others even though they have far fewer views.

Does life not get sooo complicated when you attempt to make several points in the same post?

Come on guys. Wake up. Pay attention. :)
