Lactic acid, vegan or not?

Hey everyone,

i see alot of products contains "Lactic acid"
someone can explain me does it vegan or not?

There are vegan sources of lactic acid, but unless the package states the item is vegan somewhere, or says on the ingredients list that the lactic acid comes from a vegan source I'd probably assume it came from an animal source.
