After falling for several years, knife crime in England and Wales
is rising again. So what is happening?

This is so sad and it must be frighting for parents who have teenagers.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick has said there is
"obviously" a link between violent crime and falling police numbers.

I find that knife crimes have been going on for far too long. Too many
young lives have been lost and the government seems to be helpless.

A sign of the times, I think. Austerity politics mean young people, especially in already deprived areas have been left to fend for themselves, with a general lack of opportunities for them in society, which again means some of them will inevitably turn to gangs and crime. And since people are generally not allowed to carry guns in this country, they go for the next best thing, the good, old knife.
