I couldn't believe this could be real, so I Googled around a bit. Here is what I found:

This was published in 2009 in the Kankakee, Illionois, Daily Journal -- not a San Francisco newspaper. Although it appears to be a letter to the editor, it was in fact the transcript of a message left on the newspaper's phone line, called "Speakout". Many people believe the message was sarcastic, left quite likely by a hunter.
