I watched the plane take off on TV this morning. Very impressive as it hardly made any noise.

Another Frenchman claims to have been first across the channel:

... but it seems his plane didn't take off by itself, like the Airbus one did, so it was less of an accomplishment.

I saw that article. It seems that the French are always jealous of exploits that the Brits do and always want to do better.

Well, I guess many French would not like you to refer to Airbus as a "British" company ;-)

Both pilots were French, actually.

This article reminds me of another impressive engineering - and athletic - achievement, which is the first crossing of the channel only powered by muscle power some 18 years ago... Gossamer Albatross
