  1. Raw vegan
I'll just link the article here. I will say I have concerns with what is seeming so many of our vegan champions are dying so soon. I am questioning myself, am I doing it right? I've been following what is considered a traditional Japanese diet, I grew up with that. I only cut out the little animal products I consumed. I will admit I do eat fish and seaweed still for Omega-3, that will not change. Even though there are plant based sources and I consume those as well, I just am terrified as I get older, of getting some debilitating disease. I know I am not bullet proof, so I do what I can to make sure I have at least some protection.

Well wishes all.

Dr. Baxter Montgomery article

I got to admit I never heard of Montgomery until he died. Idon't know much about him or how he died but I find it so ironic that a Cardiologist dies of heart disease at 56.

The thing is that even the healthiest of us can be cut down by some thing unforeseen.

You might want to read How Not To Die by Gregar.

Also you might want to rethink the fish.
When I became vegan fish was the very last thing I gave up. But the more I learned, the negative issues with fish for personal health, animal rights and the environment got me to swear off fish. To get enough omega 3 from fish you have to eat a couple of servings a week. It's healthier, cheaper, more sustainable and more compassionate to just eat algae based omega 3 supplements. There is nothing essential in fish. The fish highest in omega 3 are also the highest in heavy metals.

I had never heard of him either and so did a bit of digging and it seems he had heart issues when he was in his thirties and so bought himself another 25 years or so with his change to veganism. Dr McDougall also had health issues when he was much younger and so also had a lot of extra time and devoted that time and energy to helping others. He was also caught up in one of the LA fires a few years ago and almost died so I don't think trying to blame his death on eating a whole food plant based diet is fair.

This seems to be very common: if a vegan person dies, then a few people will likeably be immediately in doubt about veganism.

I wonder if a carnist person passed away at the same age, would this raise any concerns about carnism?

Carnists die young everyday. I think it was in the documentary What the Health where they spoke of the thousands of people who die (each day?) of heart disease. More than 90% of them must be carnists.

George Gershin died of a brain tumor at 38.
Obviously playing piano is dangerous to your health.

Many people choose a WFPB diet because of health scares after eating a diet full of meats and dairy.
There isn't enough data on those raised on WFPB, and that's really what we need
Too much conflation of "vegan" diets that simply exclude animal products without regard to what foods are consumed.

I thought long and hard about the fish and supplementation may not make a difference as far as toxicity. Unless the supplement companies all the sudden do an actual QA on their products.

I did not say in my post or elude to a WFPB diet being the sole reason for Montgomery's death. I'm saying maybe there are circumstances where it just can not work. Sadly our movement doesn't have enough billionaires to fund such research.
