Black garlic has double the anti-oxidants compared to garlic. Black garlic is cheap to make, easy to eat and cook with.

Steps to Make It

Gather 6 to 7 whole unpeeled garlic bulbs
Remove any dirt from the garlic bulbs by scrubbing gently with the rough side of a clean, unused sponge. (Do not remove cloves from the bulb nor wash the bulbs)
Set your slow cooker or rice cooker to warm. The warm setting is the right temperature and humidity for aging without cooking.
Place the garlic bulbs into the cooker. Do not overcrowd the bulbs.
Allow the bulbs to sit uninterrupted on the warm setting until the cloves are soft and black. (2 to 3 weeks)
When ready, take the bulbs out and store them in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Enjoy!

I bought black garlic at Trader Joe’s awhile back. It was good but I didn’t notice any real difference in flavor. So I didn’t bother buying it again.

I've never tasted black garlic and if I rightly remember it's quite expensive. We had a thread on VV concerning the former.

I prefer purple garlic as it has a milder taste and keeps longer compared to white garlic. I find the latter tends to have a slightly bitter taste if it's not too fresh. ;)

Yes the expense was also a deterrent. Had I noticed a different/better flavor I might splurge on occasion but see no need to.
