Bird found with 24 foot wingspan

New Zealand had those sorts of birds, extinct though. 5oo years ago they were around. Haast's eagle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That is impressive. It must have been a frightening sight for the Maori when they arrived there. But the bird in the OP must have been somewhat more frightening. (Well, it went extinct 25 million years before the first humans, so there was never a time when we co-existed and could have seen a live bird fly.)

I think they were very frightening, they were a vicious bird. A 3 metre wing span (not sure how many feet that was). New Zealand is big on weird and giant birds, though the big ones are now all extinct.

It seems to me that animals were much bigger in earlier time periods. Humans are very fortunate to be living in the modern time period.
