kudos to the guardian for publishing this. Although this is typical of the honest reporting of the Guardian.

The amount of backlash seems usually high. Might be more of reflection of the times and the change in what is now "permissible".

Although backlash to a story is concerning - what I think is even more concerning are the stories, reports and articles that never see the light of day because of pressure from Ag companies.

I think if we look at the past harassment campaigns of people promoting a plant based diet, we might find the same groups.
Yes, and I wouldn't be surprised if the meat industry interest groups routinely hire PR companies to run these dirty campaigns against every threat to their morally bankrupt business model that pops up in the news.

I remember something like 20 years ago I was trying to figure out if soy milk was healthy. I was drinking a lot of it and kept seeing articles about how bad it was. After a deep dive I determined it WAS healthy and that it was a victim of a concerted propaganda attack.
the Mercola foundation seemed to be intent or discrediting soy. Later on it was discovered that animal ag interests were major donors and on the board.
FYI

This does not surprise me. The sheer scale of anti-vegan and anti-plant based diets that we have seen in the years since peak veganism in about 2018/2019 is remarkable and I think has been fueled by an active program of disinformation from the animal ag industry who were - perhaps briefly - deeply dismayed by the risk that plant-based diets etc posed. Many people can't stand the idea of being prevented from eating meat, so they lap this stuff up, but farmers in particular just love to repeat the nonsense. Even the carnivore diet craze may stem from meat industry propaganda efforts.

Grrr. He is annoying, and too many people I know buy into his quackery.
