This is the picture that went viral in a search for the man whose dog was impounded, and didn't have the money to get him out.

He was a homeless man who was taken to jail for a failure to appear on some traffic violations. The police officer removed the collar from the dog and sent him to the shelter as a stray (and people wonder why the cops are so disliked here).

When he (Dave) got out of jail he went to the shelter to get his dog out and found out the fee was in the hundreds which he didn't have. He had three days to get the money before his dog was being put to sleep.

A lady (Maria) visiting the shelter, who takes pictures of the dogs and puts them on FB to try to get them adopted, noticed the man sitting outside the cage crying. She took his picture and later overheard what had happened when he was talking to a shelter worker. The man offered to put the $6 he had in his pocket as a deposit for his dog, but the shelter said it wasn't necessary.

She posted the picture and it went viral, and soon raised the money for the dog to be released, plus vet care. But when she went back to the shelter they didn't have any contact information for him. The police did but refused to give it to her and wouldn't even tell her what area they had picked him up in. When the story went viral, the police agreed to give the information to the shelter, but they never did.

Maria passed out fliers everywhere and talked to homeless people trying to find him. The newspapers and TV News stations started running the story and I believe it was KABC who finally found him.

So this morning, Dave and Buzz Lightyear are being reunited. :):):)

I'll add the picture of the reunion as soon as it's taken.

He doesn't get to take him home yet, he has to be neutered first.

Someone really needs to get that guy a harness rather than a neck leash. Those can really screw up a dog's neck.
