Life Sciences 180,000-Year-Old Mutation Allowed Humans to Become Vegetarians and Move Out of Africa

I don't get it. Weren't our earliest ancestors already plant-eating omnivores? Was there some evidence we were ever exclusively carnivorous? I also think this author is misusing "Vegetarian". They seem to think it means adding plants to one's diet.
