US California to ban new gas cars by 2035

I was simply referring to the use of lithium as the catalyst in it. I understand it is a much smaller amount than used in batteries. Also, yes a sep thread would be good. I was not trying to poop on the parade, but I do think it is important to always have an * next to any electric car victory...

US California to ban new gas cars by 2035

*ahem* I am talking long term, not just today. 1.5 billion cars, plus the other uses for lithium, plus growing economies worldwide who expect cars, plus a growing population, plus the expectation that lion will be used for grid storage. All of that with my core point that this is a limited...

US California to ban new gas cars by 2035

I will get specific data later when I have time, but I still think you missed my core point. (BTW it was we need to start working towards not using rare and not fully recoverable materials). Also, your "numbers" are from a "how much money can I make off of this" vs "Is this something we should...

US California to ban new gas cars by 2035

Ok, I think the premise of my argument got missed. Also, the math on resource use and environmental damage per KW/h or Mile/KM based on the disparity in how much of these rare materials are needed per type of auto and how often parts need replacing........ ........ ....... Here goes: 1. The...

US California to ban new gas cars by 2035

:( electric cars are the wrong path. There isn't enough lithium nor other requisite metals to make enough batteries to replace the needed number of vehicles. On top of that, those metals are horrible for the environment, both during extraction and disposal. We really need to go to hydrogen...

Should this video be reported for animal curelty?

Ok, good. I am glad it is not something nasty. The thumbnail looked rather suspect, the squirrel in that still did not look happy. I'll check it out in a bit, thank you.

Suggestion New rule: premises for discussion

Imagine the power and sway we would hold if that was a thing... "Stop torturing animals or we will shoot this soya dart at you!" Would only be max 90% or 50% effective depending, though....

Should this video be reported for animal curelty?

Came across this thumbnail in youtube. I couldn't bring myself to watch it, but the thumbnail does seem to depict someone catapulting a squirrel in a manner that could cause serious injury. It doesn't just look like some "carnist doing stupid thing to animals fun time"... More like blatant...

Clarification: I picked 2 random links you provided, not the first two links as stated above.

    Planet of the Humans

You should be careful when trying to article dump like that. The first 2 random links you provided to me talked about how it is easy to digest the sugar component of cellulose, but they also want to get energy from the lignins as well, and are articles about how to do that. One of the links did...

    Planet of the Humans

To be honest, I was in bed and googled density of cellulose and it came up with 1.5g/cm^3. I was referring to cellulose powder as a best case scenario (I know this is 2ish orders of magnitude above any realistic yield, but I plan on high input and a decent storage capacity.).

    Planet of the Humans

I'm getting 36000 kcal for 6 liters of pure cellulose @ 1.5 g/cm^3. Obviously not ever gonna get any numbers like that in real life, but I wanted to check that base level.

    Planet of the Humans

Sorry, meant for poop and inedible scraps, and maybe over shot the calories a bit, I was at work while thinking about the cellulose issue and had no access to the internet and was doing back of napkin maths based on what I could remember for cellulose in wood. Regardless, the generator I...

    Planet of the Humans

David3, you throw away more than 4000 kcals a day in food waste every day, in the form of cellulose, mostly from your poop. You need to look at ALL the calories in the things going in to the digester, not just the ones humans can digest. That brings me to the next point, the data you provided...

    Climate change deniers

I remember a recent thread about a new Michael Moore documentary that tried to vilify a certain pro-eco person. Part of moores argument for the entire documentary hinged on his use of wildly out of date data on the cost of solar. Odd that this chart pops up, no one seemed to notice my post in...

News Making Veggie Burgers Doesn’t Help The Climate

Their messaging from the very beginning was this, so I do not see why this is a shocker. And yeah, the proper direction towards a vegan world starts with the carnists' stomachs. Sadly it can't just start with the heart or brain.... C'est l'vie...

    Planet of the Humans

Every single one of the home-sized units I have seen has been able to produce 1 to 2 hours of cooking gas a day from kitchen scraps, food waste, lawn clippings, home waste. (all presuming high enough temp, and protection from uv, air etc) There are a ton of videos on YouTube of people installing...

    Planet of the Humans

I haven't tried to build one yet, I am still trying to find out what the best (non animal based) seeder is for it. I doubt human waste would be a good option, but it may be fine as some of the commercial bio gas systems can be hooked up to a toilet. How did your experiment go? Were you able to...

    Planet of the Humans

I have been binge watching stuff on biogas generators (more-so some of the more creative storage methods, focusing on bagless) for awhile now. Very impressive and simple stuff, that will certainly be incorporated in to any future building plans (fingers crossed).

    Planet of the Humans

Just saw an interview with the supposed "big bio mass guy" that this documentary was exposing. Turns out the bio fuel pusher (and starter of 350.org) has only ever spoken at a small bio mass plant that opened on the campus he worked at. He himself had been against bio mass for years, but Moore...
